The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hollywoodreporter/convergence/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1785152) has an article predicting some future console hardware releases that we may hear about in 2003. They state E3 as announcement time which sounds feasible I suppose but some of their other predictions don't sound that likely:

The true next generation of hardware is pegged for a 2005 launch, with Microsoft planning Xbox Next and Sony planning PlayStation 3. But 2003 might see a portable take on GameCube and cheaper variations of Xbox and PlayStation 2, Envisioneering analyst Richard Doherty predicted.

"A portable GameCube device would bring next-generation graphics to the portable market -- a market dominated by Nintendo with no competition from Sony or Microsoft," Doherty said.

Doherty expects an Xbox 1.5 that will be cheaper to manufacture and will be a smaller, lighter version of the current Xbox. He said it will retail from $129-$149. Microsoft also might introduce a new combination Xbox-digital video recorder for about $199.

portable GC would own

I have heard that portible GC rumor before and I really don't see it happening on a mass level right now. There have been portible consoles before that were better then Nintendo's but Nintendo still outlasted them.

The PSone had a tiny screen that made it kinda portable. I always thought that was freaking cool.

That screen is pretty sweet. There are screens like that for all the systems out right now (Xbox, GC, and PS2). I might get the GC one.

ummm....the only problem is.....only the PSone screen is actually portable....unless you get a low powered screen/console it's by no means portable. The PSone is designed to be portable since it only requires 7volts to run the console/screen combo. Xbox would never be able to be run as a portable system in it's current state...and if you have to use it at home...ya might as well use it on your tv rather then the lil screen. The PS2 one is gay only for the reason that it's way too small to use for any games other then maybe racing. With a RPG you'd have to strain to see what was on the screen ... especially in the world map or something similar that covers a wide area.

imo, the only portable setup that works is the psone

all the other ones are too cumbersome and/or the screens are too small/suck.

PSone is the only one that will operate on a battery.

The Xbox would probably require a Car battery to keep it and the screen running.

GC with a few modifications probably could be made portable....similar to the way they did it for the PSone. If ya can get the power consumption down...you can battery power anything.
