View Full Version : Quake 3 sound problems

I recently installed quake 3 out of sheer boredom, and I'm having a problem with the sound. All sound is delayed by about 1 second, and I don't know why. This doesn't occur ANYWHERE else (or if so, it's a delay I have control over), so I'm not thinking it's my sound card that's doing it.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Funny, I just installed Q3 last weekend for the same reason. But my problem is a bit different. My screen brightness goes dark all the time. I had to ignorehwgamma. Now its brighter than the second coming.

Well, I tried q-tips, and it actually reduced the delay by 4ms.
996ms to go.

if you are u sing an EARLY version of the 40 series detonator drivers, then you will have that problem
it was solved in the later versions, i know the 41s are ok

I had a similar thing happen while running the Quake 2 Demo under Windows NT4.0. While NT had the OpenGL support needed to run the demo, it lacked the DirectSound support and so reverted to using WaveOut and as a result, a delay was introduced between an event happening, such as a weapon firing, and the sound effect for it occuring. Perhaps Q3 is having trouble find a DirectSound device and reverting to software sound.

how would I force it to find a DirectSound device?
