Actually, the Jaguar has alot in common with the XBox.

Both were technologically ahead of their time.
Both had huge controllers.
Both promised online play with voice communication.
both were American made.
Both had abysmal games, and a ton of ports.
Both offered redesigned controllers within months of release.

A ton of ports, eh? Where are they? Most aren't ports, they're multi-platform releases and the XBox always seems to have the best one with multiple extra added features...

I worked at Babbage's when the Jaguar was out....

When I left there to go to college they were boxing up everything to send it to another store. We couldn't even give it away. I think the system went down to $50 at our store and the games were only $10...but nobody would touch them.

I think he means as ports as in where ya can plug different things in.....not ports of games

Bahahahahaha. Oops.

Well they did say certain things about the Jaguar (most of them listed above) were ahead of thier time.

I don't care what anyone says, but the XBox is becoming more and more attractive as the year goes on

Like I said in the beginning, the XBox sucked ass when it launched because the games sucked ... but just like the PS2, the wait is paying off. There are a lot of really good games that are available with a few great titles on the horizon ...

That combined with the fact that their online feature is 100x better than the the PS2 (PS2 Online sucks ass ... worst money I ever spent on a peripheral ever ... so far)

I played a little Unreal Championship online at a friend's house this weekend and it was GREAT! JSRF is a really fun game. Splinter Cell could possibly be the game of the year from the limited time I saw it on screen

Say what you will, but the hardware is the best in the business right now and some games look even better then the crap we are getting on PC now ... when the developers REALLY start to take advantage of what the XBox can do (and we are starting to see that), the PS2 won't be able to keep up ...

I probably won't be buying an XBox anytime soon ... not because I don't want one, but because I don't have enough time for 2 consoles ... however, if the XBox continues on the positive path it has to this point, I will soon have no choice but to pick one up, especially if they release a decent racer online

Counter what I said ... no need for the fan boy response

My point is that I like the PS2 more ... the top 20 games on the PS2 destroy the top 20 games on the XBox (in fact, I can't name 20 games on the XBox I would have in my collection ... maybe 10-12 titles tops)

But the PS2 had the year to develop and now we are seeing what the XBox is doing a year later ... the future is promising for the XBox ... at least I think so

only time will tell really,
but statistically speaking, when a gameing system doesnt have many game... (now Xbox is getting more games, BUT out of the 100 they may have only like 5 of them are ONLY ON XBOX which doesnt help them) then they wont last.

now if xbox got more games that were ONLY on xbox then they might have a chance but when i was at best buy the other day, i only saw 5 games that were only for xbox the others were for PS2 and GC also, and if people already have a PS2/GC, then whats the point for the XBOX, they need more EXCLUSIVE games.
they can come out with GTA Vice city and every resident evil game but everyone already has it.

they need new stuff...
ill give it a chance but they need exclusive stuff. not another version of a football game that is on every other system

I would consider buying an Xbox if I could justify more then 2 titles to buy with it. The system has come along way since it was launched....but moving at too slow of a pace. For as long as it has been out it should have the 20 or so good games that people are looking for....not under a dozen. Xbox has a lot more ground to cover for game development if they want to be a contender in the market. A system can't strive on one or two titles.....(aka Halo...Halo 2....Halo 3....).

Microsoft is in this for the money, so they'll do whatever they need to to get the Xbox rolling. In the past Microsoft has secretly dumped things before that haven't succeeded....and many have siad this would be one of them. For that reason alond M$ has something to prove that they aren't just a Windows wonder and show they have depth in the company.

Note: I do not like M$ ... the only money I've ever given to them is on Keyboards, mice, etc. :)

XBox is the only system that has a hockey game online ...

Plus 90% of the games that are on all of the platforms, the XBox has the best graphics ... that may not matter to hardcore gamers, but for the average gamer, it is all about the eye candy ...

tru...and they also can't get away with just adding a level or a new weapon to a game to call it exclusive...

unlike the PC market...consumers have a choice, we don't have to buy one system because it has the whole market....I think that's what M$ is hurting on....everything they have worked on before was introduced in a market where they had a tight handle on everything :smirk:

for starters.....you're on a PC....online games will always be better on a PC....so I don't really think online is a big issue for those that have PC's already. I have the online kit for the PS2 but I really only use Twisted Metal Black on it.

secondly.....Xbox does have better graphics...but as we have discussed on this board before....games like Halo, Metal Gear, Need For Speed HP2 don't sell because of their great graphics alone. They sell for their gameplay and depth. I've seen alot of pretty games....but they play like shit (PS2, PSone, GC, N64, Xbox all have titles like this). So I really don't think graphics is a good way to sell a system....but it's a close number 2 on the list.

Many people buy consoles because they don't have the will / skill / time / money to get games working on thier PC.

I actually enjoy playing sports games on a console more than I do one the PC ... same with racing games

I played Madden online everyday for a month on the PS2 ... it was way better than the PC version ...

The only games that the PC does better is FPS and RTS ... and I honestly believe that the consoles are catching up on the FPS... Once they get an easier control scheme (ie keyboard/mouse style) on the consoles, their FPS will be more entertaining ...

I played Unreal Championship on the XBox and I really liked it ... only thing that held me back was the gamepad, but the people I played against online played almost prefectly ...

It's scary how much time console people spend online. Back when Halo was first brought online (Gayspy Arcade) there were tons of people online.

They spend time online because it is easy to get the consoles online ... with online PC games, things are either too complicated or you have to download 100 mb patches every two months ...

I guess I'm old fashion....I'd rather have updates to keep things running smoothly and efficiently then having to be stuck with bugs until a new version of the game comes out. Especially with the changing world of the Internet. I will have to agree that some games are more fun on a console....racing games especially.

I dunno aout you but I haven't seen much of a huge "switch" type campaign from MS. Seems to me they're targetting people that want to buy a new console.
