hehe. I tried to teach my friend to use EAC + LAME. He thinks it "sucks" and it "ruined his mp3s"
The guy scares me. I guess it doesn't bother me unless I want to have a cd he's ripped. I'd be better off doing it myself.

This is actually my neighbour. The same guy I mentioned in pac's thread about the car system. This is the guy who cranks his speakers up to the point where they crack like hell and you can hear the noise from 4th floor. (we live on 1st)
I guess that should be some kind of hint that sound quality isn't exactly what matters to him.

The newer version of EAC took me awhile to setup with LAME, cause it kept doing weird things. But once I fixed the setup it works fine.

Edit: I should elaborate a little mor eon my answer.

AFAIK iTunes doesn't do LAME, but still produces good quality rips. Rip is the keyword, not encoding.

Recomended Preferences are: Under the Importing tag, choose a "Custom" configuration. In the following dialog box, check the VBR box, select "Highest" quality, and select "192 kbps" for the Stereo setting.

NMP3ripper (http://www.stumod.com/nmp3ripper.html) is known to work in MacOS X and switch people say it's easy.

Edit#2: Audion also does LAME with --preset settings and I hear is also a good player.
