My dissapointment in FPS/Action games.

I've been quite disappointed in the genre lately, well the whole action gaming in all. The last SP game I played that was at all entertaining yet challenging was RTCWolfenstein. I enjoyed MOH but the AI was TERRIBLE and I found it too easy. I just "tried" Spearhead and I think it might even be easier and I didn't see any real improvement in AI (they aim better that’s all).

I played through about 1/2 of Quake 2 just for fun the other day and I must say I enjoyed it as much as these newer games. The latest game I tried was/is Bond 007:Nightfire. From what I can tell so far... its shit. Terrible AI and no real atmosphere.

What ever happened to making good games? Quake was super cool, Systemshock was scary, Halflife was just fucking great and even RTCWolfenstein has its fair share of good solid gaming moments.

Am I being too picky?

Multiplayer is what happened to games. As online multiplayer has become more popular, game developers have started to spend less time developing good single player elements to the game since the majority of the people purchasing the game would just bypass the single player portion of the game and hop online anyway.

The single player portion is now developed to be more of a training experience for online play, so the storyline and AI have been neglected. The only place where single player still seems to be the number one priority is on consoles, and unfortunately FPS games tend to be hindered by poor controls on console systems.

Doom 3 looks promising with its great graphics and moody environments, but then again id hasn't put much effort into single player in its last few releases. So, the only advice I can give is to wait and see if things change sometime soon.

BB I am also getting burned on FPS. I love FPS but I donno....maybe I need to just wait for doom 3. IMO doom 3 will be as good as SP as HL, I hope.

I remember becoming incredibly draught after playing it for awhile. Couldn't stand it.

I find myself wanting to play Project IGI again, I rather enjoyed stealthing around in enemy bases ala Metal Gear.

And it doesn't have multiplayer (if I remember right) so there ya go, full effort on the single player.

Well, what I meant about Quake2 is... it was/is just as fun as many new games (meaning the new games aren't offering much).

Doom3 looks promising not because its not gonna offer any magical new gameplay but it sure as hell looks like its gonna nail the atmosphere and moodiness right on the head.

My only knock on Project IGI was the horrible AI. You could shoot a guy in the leg and he'd just stand there or look around.

everyone wastes cpu on pretty graphics and then there is none left of the ai

thats why games blow

I still haven't tried NOLF2, but from what I hear, it is actually better than NOLF

Be even better on PC if they add 4+ player support too, got that "I'm a bad ass bitch in a hi-tech suit, don't fuck with me" feeling.

I could care less about graphics at the moment. I have always prefered good gameplay over eye candy. But yeah I agree on that people do complain about graphics if they are sub par or even par. :nono:
